Custom software development

Websites, applications, interfaces and automation that fit the way you work – instead of bending your processes to off-the-shelf software.

Discuss a software project

Good software does not start with the first line of code but with the question of which problem it should solve. I build applications that fit your processes – and that can still be maintained and extended a few years from now.

What I build

  • Custom applications and internal business tools
  • Web applications with user management and permission concepts
  • APIs and interfaces between existing systems
  • Database design, data processing, import and export
  • Automation of recurring tasks
  • Modernisation and extension of existing software
  • Prototypes and technical feasibility studies
  • Maintenance, documentation and long-term development

Websites

A website is often the first impression – it should load fast, look good on every device and do without unnecessary data collection. I build websites for businesses, freelancers and associations, without site builders and matching your brand.

  • Business and association websites: clearly structured, modern design, prepared for search engines
  • Self-editable: with a content management system if you want to change content regularly yourself
  • Static and low-maintenance: no database, no plugins – fast, secure and easy to maintain
  • Revamping existing websites: modernising, speeding up, improving privacy and accessibility

More than writing code

Code is the visible result – the real work happens before and around it: understanding requirements, choosing an architecture, modelling data properly, handling failure cases, securing access, testing, documenting and planning for operation. These decisions determine whether an application still runs reliably after its first year.

Troubleshooting and system integration

Not every project starts from scratch. Often there is a system that is slow, fails sporadically or does not work together with another one.

  • Structured troubleshooting: reproduce, narrow down, prove the cause – instead of hiding symptoms
  • Debugging and performance optimisation
  • Integrating systems via interfaces, data formats and imports
  • Technical advice: which technology fits, what is realistic, where are the risks?

You end up with a clear explanation of what caused the problem and what was changed.

AI as a development tool

I use AI tools deliberately – for code analysis, support in debugging, test cases, documentation, technical research and quick prototypes. That saves time where it makes sense.

AI can generate code. Taking responsibility for a working solution, however, requires technical understanding, architectural knowledge, critical thinking and rigorous testing.

That is why I review AI output like any other code: for correctness, security, data protection, performance and maintainability. AI does not automatically produce bug-free software – how much it helps depends on the use case. Confidential data or source code is only shared with external AI services after agreement.

Frequently asked questions

Is custom software worth it for a small business?

Often, yes – when a task regularly eats up time, data is maintained twice or standard software only fits with workarounds. Sometimes an existing product is cheaper, though. I check that honestly up front.

Can you extend software that someone else wrote?

Yes, as long as source code and access are available. It starts with an assessment so that changes do not destabilise what already works.

Who owns the source code in the end?

This is agreed in writing before the project starts. Usually you receive the usage rights and the source code, so you are not dependent on me.

Can I maintain my website myself?

If you want to, yes – with a content management system you change texts and images yourself. If content rarely changes, a static website is often the better choice: faster, more secure and lower maintenance. We decide which fits at the start.
